Tsvetnye Metally
2020 marks the 130th anniversary of Kazan National Research Technological University (or, KNRTU). Today, KNRTU is one of Russia’s major educational centres in the area of chemical technology. This issue features articles authored by KNRTU researchers and focusing on the following subjects: molecular structures of 5-atom aluminium-titanium and aluminium-vanadium clusters; the disperse polymetallic system of Al – Cr – Mn – Fe – Co precipitated from solutions; production of complex aluminium oxide systems; disposal of industrial waste and environmental protection: i.e. processing of molybdenum-containing waste water and neutralization of metal-bearing wastes generated by electroplating sites.
Of interest is the article published in the Rare Metals, Semiconductors section: Recovery of lithium from oil and gas field brines. The authors looked at removing magnesium from field brines and the chemisorption of lithium from formation brines on as-precipitated aluminium hydroxides. The conducted experiments helped identify optimum process parameters.
To be noted is the article authored by Drits and Ovchinnikov and published in the Materials Science section. The authors looked at the effect of post weld heat treatment on the properties and structure of friction stir welded joints of AV aluminium alloy.
