Chernye Metally

The 10^th issue of “Chernye metally” journal (2017) is opened by the usual sections “Iron and steel news of the world” and “Innovations of the metallurgical companies”.

The section “Ironmaking” includes publication about the new expert system for optimization of DRIpax technological process for DRI units. It is built using flexible module-type architecture that integrates the tested control system for technological information and data bases in the framework of Primetals Technologies company.

The section “Steel making” presents the article describing usage of different kinds of metal charge materials and their combinations in electric steel making process. These investigations have been also done at the enterprises of Primetals Technologies. Another paper in this section is a joint work of the National University of Science and Technology “MISiS” and Volzhsky Pipe Plant with research of addition of HBI with determined composition in charge and its effect on technological parameters of electric steel melting.

We recommend to pay attention to the section “Casting and foundry production” presented by the articles written by the Russian authors. The specialists from the Volgograd State Technical University have displayed that usage of ingots with cooled top ingot part allows to improve chemical homogeneity along the hollow forgings’ length and across their cross section, as well as to increase metal yield. The specialists of the Nizhniy Novgorod State Technical University have displayed the variant of organization of the production site for refining of galvanized steel crops in the conditions of the operating foundry shop at a machine-building works. The ways of possible application of by-products and zinc chloride in casting technologies are also suggested. V. G. Babkin, V. V. Leonov, T. R. Gilmanshina and T. N. Stepanova from the Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk) have presented the results of their researches of possible chemical processes occurring in the casting mould atmosphere on the border between graphite coating and cast iron melt. It is shown that usage of chemical and chemical-mechanical activation allows to improve surface quality of cast iron castings owing to lowering of the amount of coke on their surface.

The article by S. M. Belskiy from the Lipetsk State Technical University is published in the section “Rolling and other metal forming processes”. It is devoted to the determination coefficient that characterizes precision of coincidence of approximating parabola with actual measured cross section shape of hot-rolled strip.

The issue also includes the section “Power engineering and ecology”.
