The complex of studies on the possibility of using the microalloyed and high-carbon steel grades for production high-strength steel reinforced bars of large diameter (9.6 mm) is carried out. The basic investigations have been conducted with steels 80KhFYu (80ХФЮ), 85KhFYu (85ХФЮ), 85FYu (85ФЮ) manufactured at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works. Technological route for production of reinforced bars of 80KhFYu steel included hot rolling of a billet, drawing to 10 mm diameter wire, fabrication of cold-rolled reinforced bar with 3-side periodic shape. Drawing and final rolling steps have been conducted at “MMK-Metiz” works. The final technological step is presented by thermo-mechanical treatment including simultaneous action of small plastic deformations (up to 10%) during forming of periodical shape on the surface of reinforced bars and thermal effect at reinforced bars at the temperature lower than recrystallization temperature, with strong tension and consequent stretching. It is shown that use of the patented billet makes it possible to replace micro-alloyed steel by highcarbon steel with achievement of high level of mechanical properties of finished reinforced steel bars via combination of thermomechanical processing of high-carbon steels. It should be mentioned that the developed technology is not susceptible to quality of initial rolled billets. Microstructure of the finished cold-rolled reinforced steel 80KhFYu (80ХФЮ), is presented, it contains mainly ferrite-carbide mix and small amount of structurally free ferrite in the core layers.
