The study subject is lead–zinc sulphide ore with the predominant content of lead. The authors illustrate the effi ciency of separating lead “head” under nonchemical treatment. Without collecting agents, during the first 6 mines of flotation, owing to the natural hydrophobic behavior of galena, it is possible to extract more than 40% of the metal into a product with the lead content of 34.5%. Middlings contain almost 93% of zinc in this case. The lead and zinc ratio in the product is 1 to 1, which is favorable for bulk–selective flotation. The authors investigate Cytec Industries reagents: Aero 400; Aero 5745 and Aero 8045 as well as an apolar reagent as an additive. It has been found that the combination of Aero 5745 and butyl xanthate at a ratio of 1:1 provides the noticeable improvement of beneficiation data. It is found that addition of engine oil in flotation enables reduction in metal loss in the tailings by 1.5–2%. The flowsheet and the reagent regime are proposed for the bulk flotation cycle. The flowsheet ensures favorable conditions for the further selective extraction of a bulk concentrate and for the low loss of lead and zinc in the bulk flotation cycle tailings (6.25 and 9.12%, respectively).
