Consideration of current state of energy efficiency in steel production in Germany has displayed that this parameter has increased since 1990 by 20% for rolling processes and by 15% for melting and casting processes. It can be explained by quality improvement of iron ore and metal scrap. At the same time increased ecological requirements stipulate additional energy consumption. Possible ways for rise of energy efficiency using complex and integrated technological routes are examined. Systematic increase of energy efficiency is a priority task at all metallurgical works at present time and will remain the same in the future. Each measure that should be conducted at any works has to be evaluated from the point of view of its economic acceptability. Development of the new technologies that can help to solve such problem in the future are only being started. Possibility and expedience of usage of such technologies is rather actual, but not in the nearest perspective.
