Abstract

The majority of the process circuits at mining-and-processing plants operate with pulp, and, accordingly, the first priority of automated processing control is to measure continuously pulp density. At the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant, the tests of two most promising series-produced densometers were carried out, namely, Gamma Densometer manufactured by Berthold, Germany, and Canadian-made strain gaugetype volume–weight flow density meter DENCELL. The sampling material was the discharge of a KSNtype spiral classifier 12.5×3 m and the discharge of a flotation circuit cyclone at the preparation plant. The many years of experience gained in operation of this equipment allow objective analysis of virtues and shortcomings of two densometers. The testing results can be useful in optimizing the choice of industrial density meters in order to control and adjust process flowsheets depending on the specific tasks and standards of processing plants.
