Formation and level of processing of metallurgical wastes of blast furnace and steelmaking plants of JSC “EVRAZ NTMK” was analyzed in this work. It was shown that the enterprise possesses a specific technology of a through metallurgical cycle associated with the processing of vanadium-containing titanomagnetite raw materials, which is reflected in the peculiarities of the operation of blast furnace and steelmaking. It predetermines, on the one hand, a higher level of blast-furnace slag formation, which is completely recycled to crushed stone, and, on the other hand, a low yield of the final steel-smelting slag that is recycled through agglomeration and blast-furnace production due to the increased content of vanadium in it. At present time supply of converter slag into the dump is minimized. The disadvantage of recycling of steelmaking slags (current and dumping) is an increase of phosphorus in the content of cast iron with a corresponding increase in costs in the production of steel. To stabilize the phosphorus content in cast iron, this work was carried out to improve the technology for processing waste slag, as a result of which the iron content in the recovered metal increased by 5%. Introduction of the technology for production of vanadium-containing iron flux with its use for the smelting of cast iron has made it possible to rationally utilize all iron-containing waste from blast-furnace and steel-smelting operations with time. Rationality of their use is proved by the high-efficiency and economical operation of blast furnaces, as well as by the improvement of the quality of cast iron in the content of vanadium.
