Abstract

Metallurgy belongs to the most important sector of the national economy due to its material and financial intensity, export value and high technology. It is metallurgy that provides with the required blanks the whole manufacturing industry, which is an indicator of economic development. For smelting and processing of metal, complex units and technologies are used. Metallurgical processes are based on the fundamental laws of physical chemistry, materials science, theoretical mechanics and material resistance. Peculiarities of metallurgical processes require competent workers who can ensure the quality of products. Currently, there are challenges in the training of personnel with higher education for the industrial sectors of the economy. Bachelor-level graduates are not prepared for production and technological activities. Modernization of federal state educational standards by introducing recommendations on the use of professional standards does not solve the problem of improving the quality of graduates. The functions of modern specialists in the field of engineering and technology are much wider than the labor functions of workers and foremen represented in professional standards. In a new version of the educational standards (FSES 3++), it is missing the main thing, that is the orientation of universities towards the achievement of the graduates` education quality. The number of mandatory competencies in educational programs does not include the competence of graduates - “commitment to quality”. In the near future, the education of bachelor-level graduates at universities will become an obstacle to the development of a modern innovative economy. The return of engineering training in higher education organizations is imperative.
