A study of the method of pneumatic magnetic separation was completed, when finely preground material was loosened and separated into individual particles in a dust-air mixture generator. The mixture was then used for the magnetic separation of particles. Mathematical modeling of the dust-air mixture motion in a magnetic field allowed compiling recommendations for the design and manufacture of a pilot pneumatic magnetic separator. Performance characteristics of the device were studied for the fine particle class, separated from the dry concentration middlings using a specifically manufactured pneumatic louver classifier with reverse air suction. In the experiment, high concentration rates for refractory magnetite ores were obtained at the dust-air mixture velocities of 11.2 to 24.9 m/s. The pneumatic magnetic separator demonstrated good performance at high air mixture concentrations of at least μ = 9.6 kg/kg. Its specific load per 1 m of the working length of the drum is defined as 10–12 t/h·m.
The results were obtained in the implementation of project AR05134706 «Development of innovative technology for direct reduction of iron ore using solid fuels and construction of a laboratoryscale system for its complete processing from concentration to metallized iron», implemented under the grant funding for 2018–2020 from the state budget of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
