The activities of the coal industry lead to the inevitable accumulation of waste. During extraction and dressing of coal, its in-mine transportation and storage, a large number of fine-grained and pulverized coal products are formed. Man-made fills of coal waste occupy large areas of land and have a negative impact on the environment habitat. On the other hand, this waste contains large energy-source reserves. The use of such fine and pulverized coal is difficult. At the same time, such characteristics of coal waste as: ash and sulfur contents, heat of combustion, volatile matter allow us to establish their prospects for the use as a full-fledged household fuel. There are many other kinds of combustible waste. These are solid agricultural residues (straw from grain crops, sunflower stems and husks, corn cobs, etc.), wood processing wastes (sawdust, pruning from the processing of primary wood, parquet dust, etc.). It is possible to obtain a product with wanted properties from lowgrade but energy-potential raw materials using briquetting technology. The results of research into technological development of briquetting fine-grained energy-source materials of different physical nature, structure, composition and properties are summarized. The outcomes of the technical analysis and comparative burning of fuel briquettes are given. In terms of quality, the fuel briquettes obtained meet the regulatory and consumer requirements. The involvement of fine-grained and pulverized coal waste and wood-plant products in the fuel balance will enable production of additional fuel, utilization of unclaimed carbon-containing waste, increase of combustion efficiency of such waste and reduction in the environmental pollution.
