Реферат
The Castrip facility at Nucor Steel’s Crawfordsville, Indiana plant is the world’s first commercial installation for the production of Ultra-Thin Cast Strip (UCS) via twin roll casting. The Castrip process, which converts liquid steel directly into solidified sheet and hot rolls the strip in-line to product thicknesses from 0.8 to 1.5 mm, offers several advantages from both a product and process standpoint. The focus of this paper will be the reduced energy consumption and environmental impact that can be realized by producing carbon steel strip with this compact process. Highlighted aspects will include: reduced land use (small footprint), reduced energy inputs by elimination of reheating and additional multi-stand hot rolling after casting and finally also the reduction of emissions achieved through a reduced need for downstream processing.
