Tube moulds with tubes having sinusoid shape with variable in time amplitude ("VM-Sinus") have been mounted at Byelorussian Metallurgical Works in order to increase productivity and improve reliability of operation of billet continuous casters. Tube parameters were developed by the specialists of All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute on Metallurgical Machine-Building (VNIIMETMASH). At present time continuous casting of billets with cross section 125x125 mm and 140x140 mm is executed on No. 1 and No. 2 conticasters using developed mould tubes with nickel wear-resistant coating. Features of wear of different "VM-Sinus" tubes has been examined after 741, 335 and 739 melts. Therefore, current results of testings of tubes with 140x140 mm cross section, manufactured via the new technological process, have displayed their high quality. Average resistance of "VM-Sinus" tubes made 508 (217-541) melts. Usage of such tubes has led to improvement of reliability of operation of continuous casting machines and lowering of expenses per 1 ton of cast steel. Reliability parameters for No. 1 continuous casting machine have been shown in the table and include volume of cast metal, average amount of melts and waste of strands. It is concluded that productivity of this continuous casting machine rose due to increase of melts amount and decrease of number of wasted strands.
