Thanks to integrated design and to continual dedication to R&D, Pomini is now able to offer a complete roll shop specially designed for grinding heavy plate mill rolls, from roll shop layout definition to design and installation ofthe actual machines. Recent products like combi de-chockers, chock tilters, cleaning and preserving tanks, cleaning cabins and shear blade grinders are all aimed at maximum flexibility to meet customer needs, ensuring high performance while respecting the most recent international safety regulations. Heavy-plate de-chocker with the composition of the central structure and an image of the stress analysis with Nastran is displayed as an example. Shear blade technical data are presented and 3D CAD model of the shear blade with relative FEM model are observed. The hydrostatic spindle of the wheelhead with the "eccentric" shaft is displayed. Operating principle of the undergrip system on the "Z axis" and the increased efficiency of the bearings towards external torques are observed. Several technological innovations were introduced in these machines. This paper presents the latest projects and product range in Pomini‘s heavy plate mill applications: Pomini grinders in South Korea at Dongkuk Steel (2007) and Gyundai Steel (2008) are shown. Some of these machines already had outstanding results in the heavy plate mill rollshops of PJSC Vyksa Steel Works (Russia) and Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL) (India).
