Abstract

The analysis of design experience, construction and exploitation of frozen-type low-head dams in Western Yakutia is held for water supply of the camp and industrial territory of Nurbinskiy ore-dressing and processing enterprise. The principal objective of the project is to develop a method of dams construction in one year using local construction materials. The invention materials, results of field and calculating observations and natural conditions in the reservoir’s location area are taken as the basis of structural and technological solutions and their substantiation. The calculating observations are held by the evaluation and forecast of thermal regime of reservoir dams of Yakutia. The possibility of construction and exploitation of hydraulic facilities with use of geomembrane and frost soils under conditions of Western Yakutia is established. It is shown for the first time that taking into account the depth of seasonal defrostings is the determining factor for choosing the Maximum Flood Level (MFL) elevation when other conditions are equal. When the MFL elevation is fixed below the depth of seasonal defrostings, there is excluded the possibility of water filtering from the reservoir in and around the seasonally thawed soils. The research results allow to assume that the proposed structural and technological solutions for construction of frozen type dams ensure their safe operation.
