The paper presents investigations of physical-chemical properties of pyrite cinders and their behaviour with different kinds of reducing agents. The results of analysis of iron-containing phases were obtained using Mössbauer spectroscopy and are presented together with the measuring data of fractional magnetic susceptibility. Recommendations on magnetic concentration of pyrite cinder are made on the base of analysis of obtained results: it is suggested to use wet magnetic separation, because dry magnetic separation is not sufficiently effective due to dispersity of particles and their sticking together during separation. The results of thermal analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy have displayed possibility of usage of wastes of coal concentration as reducing agent in processing of pyrite cinder. It is shown that this material is characterized by rather high bulk density and high specific surface testifying high dispersity of particles. The problem of removal of nonferrous impurities can be solved via preliminary cleaning of pyrite cinder using chloride sublimation method. The bubbling processes developed by the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (NITU "MISiS") allow to obtain high-quality iron, slag for construction use and nonferrous concentrate.
