CSP flex is the further development of the successful CSP technology. CSP flex enables the production of thick, high-strength micro-alloyed pipe grades, increases the capacity of a two-strand plant to 4 million t/a and allows the production of thin strip in endless mode as well as a further reduction of energy consumption. CSP flex is characterized by its modular design with an extended range of casters and the innovative Vario mill, which was developed on the basis of extensive metallurgical research and relies on more than 20 years of experience of SMS Siemag in the field of the thin-slab-technology.The absolute temperature stability over the length and width of the thin slab is a decisive advantage of SMS Siemag’s CSP technology. Modular components of the CSP flex concept are analyzed. CSP Vario mill with medium stand M1, pre leveller and induction heater for the production of thick line pipe steel is described as well as Plant concept for the production of thick line pipe steel with VLB casterand Vario mill. Isothermal rolling in the first stands of the CSP Vario mill and temperature control during isothermal rolling in a CSP Vario mill and sampling position are observed. Rolling schedule with one or two roughing stand and sampling position are compared. Development of the annual production of CSP plan s and plants withother thin-slab concepts is shown.
