Chernye Metally

The second issue of “Chernye metally” journal in 2016 contains its conventional sections - “Iron and steel news of the world”, “News of metallurgical companies” and “Economics and finances”.

Two publications are devoted to foundry and casting processes. I. Leushin and his colleagues from Nizhniy Novgorod State Technical University presented investigations of forming graphite phase in cast iron crystallization. The results of metallographic analysis and mechanical testings of iron specimens for strength and hardness are shown, possibilities of material structure improvement for provision of high heat-resistant and wear-resistant properties of work surfaces of equipment components are determined.

D. Burzic and R. Simon from Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH have presented the survey of technological solutions for bloom continuous casters on the example of curved machine at Hyundai Steel plant. Especial attention has been paid to the technology of soft dynamic reduction (Dyna Gap 3D system).

The section “Rolling production” includes five publications: about hot-rolled strip production in China at the casting-rolling unit according to the Arvedi ESR technology; about manufacture of large-size rolled rings (with diameter up to 6 m) in Italy; about putting into practice the GearControl system for monitoring of industrial gear boxes at rolling mills (developed by Eisenbeiss GmbH, Austria); about increase of service life of rolling mill clutches owing to the system of their quick separation with drive systems in emergency cases; about so-called “soaring coil” system (Coil-Hover) for efficient and careful coil transportation using vacuum and magnetic force (both these innovations were made by the German company hpl-Neugnadenfelder Maschinenfabrik GmbH.

H.J. Kerkhoff, the president of “Steel” economical union, has presented again (as in the previous issue) his review. At present time it is devoted to the mutual influence and contradictions between development priorities of the international iron and steel industry (from one side) and regional requirements and features of separate countries (from other side), as well as to search of the ways for overcoming these contradictions.

The section “Not only about metallurgy” the readers can find the paper about the Pleven panorama, devoting to 140^th anniversary of national freedom uprising in Bulgaria against the Turkish occupation. It underlines the importance of development and strengthening of Russian-Bulgarian cooperation.
