Chernye Metally
The third issue of “Chernye metally” journal (2016) is opened by conventional sections – “Iron and steel news of the world” and “News of metallurgical companies”.
The section “Ironmaking” presents two papers. One of them is devoted to investigations aimed on extending of service life of blast furnace tuyères at the works of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe. Newly designed measuring tuyères enable to investigate the thermal conditions at the tip of the tuyère in operation. The second article describes the results of researches of up-to-date practice and global experience of operation of copper cooling staves.
The section “Casting, foundry production and metal science” includes the paper “Structure and properties of heat- and wear-resistant white cast irons of the Cr–Mn–No–Ti system” by V. Kolokoltsev et al. It concludes that distribution of the elements through the depth of layers is determined by alloy composition and cooling conditions.
The article by V. Peretyatko and S. Smetanin in the section “Rolling” contains the results of scientific and practical works devoted to optimization of hot rolling of rails in roughing and finishing rolling stands at EVRAZ OZSMK in Novokuznetsk.
The section “Economics and finances” includes the interview of T. Wurtz, the director of association of metallurgical industry, about global competition of modern technologies and current market situation.
The issue also presents the publication by E. Tarakanova about Mertsalov palm – one of the most famous artifacts of the Mining museum in St. Petersburg. This palm is made by forging from steel rail.
