The section “Beneficiation processes” is most representative in this issue of the journal.
One of the papers is dedicated to searching of effective methods for processing relatively low-grade bauxites occurring in the Vezhayu-Vorykvinskoye deposit in the Timan province. A significant hindrance with respect to processing of bauxites in question is their high content of ferruginous oxides, including non-magnetic, and a high silica modulus. Using the up-to-date methods of mineralogical studies, the authors (O.B. Kotova, et al.) showed that exposure to radiation during heating leads to strengthening of magnetic properties of ferruginousbauxites, contributing to separation of alumina and ferruginous components of bauxites, as well as rare and rare-earth elements’ phases selective recovery. Efficient process ingofthistypeofbauxiteson a commercial scale will permit to reduce dependence on import of aluminium raw materials for the domestic aluminium industry.
The specialists of the National Research Technological University “Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys” (A. A. Nikolaev, et al.) studied collector's selectivity in sulfide ores bulk-selective flotation circuits. On the basis of the Gayskoye deposit sulfide copper-zinc ore flotation experiments, a flotation selectivity criterion was proposed taking into consideration copper and zinc processing recovery into copper-zinc concentrate and flotation recovery kinetics. It was established, that the highest selectivity criterion in flotation of this type of ore was achieved with application of composition of sodium butyl dithiophosphate and thionocarbamate-dithiophosphate mixture.
The paper of V.I. Ryaboy and Ye. D. Shepeta is devoted to the study of dialkyldithiophosphates surface activity and hydrophobic properties effects upon copper arsenic-containing ores flotation. On the basis of surface activity and hydrophobic property regulation, a new specimen 225-5 was obtained, a copper and precious metals collector of a higher effectiveness, if compared with dialkyldithiophosphate reagent IMA-I413p, conventionally used in the industry. Development of high-selective collectors in dialkyldithiophosphate series and organization of their production in the Russian Federation is one of the main areas of activity of V.I. Ryaboy, who celebrated his 80th anniversary on the 1st of August. The editorial staff sends the heartiest congratulations to the eminent scientist on the occasion of his anniversary.
The paper in the section “Process Mineralogy” is related to the task of import substitution, which demands searching for new domestic sources of quartz-feldspathic mineral materials. Mineralogical, structural-petrographic studies (L.S. Skamnitskaya, et al.) of alumino-siliceous sedimentary rocks (silicites), widely occurring in the Central Karelian region, showed, that with respect to alkaline metals’ oxides content and potassium modulus, the studied silicites meet the production requirements to feldspar products, but with regard to Fе2О3 content need beneficiation. The laboratory studies showed that by means of magnetic separation of silicite ground to 0.25 mm size and dedusted by 0.063 mm size fraction, it is possible to produce quartz-feldspathic concentrate with mass fraction of Fе2О3 below 0.2 %.
