Gornyi Zhurnal
Gornyi Zurnal issue 6, June 2018 has come off the press. This issue is for the most part devoted to the Mining Institute of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Perm, which celebrates its 30th anniversary these days. The articles prepared by the fellows of the Institute expose the scope of extensive research embracing aspects of expansion of raw material supply base in the region of Western Ural, geomechanical maintenance of mining, operational safety, environment protection and preservation of cultural heritage.
The customary sections of the Journal highlight the landmark paper by Academician K. N. Trubetskoy addressing problems of economically balanced mineral mining by the open pit method. It also would be interesting to read the paper by Professor V. P. Zubov reviewing the current underground mining technologies for bedded deposits (salt, coal) and offering provisions for higher safety and economic efficiency of development of such mineral objects.
Articles of notable technical experts from Kazakhstan, Germany and Poland deserve attention as they discuss experience of mining engineer training and new approaches to higher mining education in these countries.
