Chernye Metally

The July issue of the journal “Chernye Metally” includes six sections.

The section is opened by the section “Preparation of raw materials for metallurgical production”, which contains one material - an article written by foreign authors devoted to comparison of measurements of the internal gas pressure in a coke-chemical laboratory and at the existing industry.

In the second section, “Steel Production,” the reader will become familiar with the peculiarities of production of premium steel grades using a 150-ton RH degasser at Big River Steel’s plant and high-purity special steels in the X-eed type vacuum induction furnace at Liberty Specialty Steels.

The section "Rolling and other processes of metal forming" includes four articles. Of practical interest is, for example, the article that represents the study associated with the determination of mechanical properties of steel thin-walled vessels by hardness after screw hot-rolling, followed by stamping and quenching. The dependencies obtained by the authors allow the use of non-destructive hardness control methods to determine the main indicators of mechanical properties of thin-walled vessels made of 50 grade steel.

The next section, “Powder Metallurgy”, opens the article on the kinetics of dispersion-agglomeration processes during mechanical activation of the 110G13D powder steel charge. In the article, in particular, the hypothesis of a multi-stage agglomeration of Fe –Mn – C particles during mechanical activation was formulated, including setting of particles on the contact surfaces and topochemical reactions of particles interaction with the surface oxide layer, impregnation of iron powder particles with small (less than 63 μm) ferromanganese particles and their cladding by iron powder material. The second article in this section presents a pilot plant for production of metal powder at the industrial scale, developed by SMS Mevac to implement additive technologies.

The articles of the section “Energy and Ecology” deal with issues of the secondary use of metallurgical slags as sorbents in wastewater treatment; the necessity of introduction of technologies for production of slag binders as exemplified in the JSC "Severstal" was justified and the corresponding recommendations were proposed; studies of the technology for processing ash and slag waste of thermal power plants to produce iron-containing raw materials for the ferrous metallurgy.

The July issue is completed by the section “Economics and Finance” with an analytical article in which, following the results of 2018, the issues and contradictions of the economic development of the world`s main economies are considered.

In addition, this number includes a colored insert dedicated to the anniversary of the deputy chief editor of the journal E. V. Tsirulnikov. Friends and colleagues addressed the hero of the day with warm words.
