Tsvetnye Metally

The 2021 December issue of Tsvetnye Metally attracts the reader’s attention to research papers in the sections on Beneficiation, Heavy Non-Ferrous Metals, Rare Metals and Semiconductors, Composites and Multipurpose Coatings, Materials Science, Metal Processing.

The section on Materials Science presents the paper on “Localized corrosion of magnesium alloys potentially applicable for medical implants: fundamental aspects” prepared by a team of the authors from the Institute of Chemistry, Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Surface Science, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. The obtained results support promising outlook of applying bioresorbable magnesium implants in surgery.

The paper on “Effect of the chemical composition and high-temperature heating simulating a brazing operation on the structure and mechanical properties of Al – Mn (–Mg) alloy sheets” prepared by the authors from the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials at the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute outlines a thermodynamic simulation of a phase composition in Thermo-Calc software to choose experimental alloys of Al – Mn system, taking into account required solidus temperature for brazing.

Additive manufacturing technology, which is applied in blanking operations, should be described as an innovative area that ensures reduced labour intensity and manufacturing costs of parts for the aerospace and aircraft building industries. Such technology is used to produce blanks that are close to the geometry of the final part, i.e. near net shape parts, with minimum allowance for subsequent finishing operations. In particular, printing of parts using metal powders is of special interest. The paper presented in the section on Metal Processing by the authors from Samara National Research University describes the results of a study to determine rational scanning parameters for powder titanium alloy VT6. The paper also contains the results of a uniaxial tensile test carried out with cylindrical specimens.

In the Chronicle section the readers will learn about history of the Geology Museum in Ufa.

The December issue traditionally includes the contents of the journals for 2021.
