Museums - Special issue

The State Museum of Oriental Art is one of the largest scientific and educational monuments of art of the countries and nations of Asia and Africa from the ancient times till nowadays.

The museum exhibits the masterpieces of fine and applied arts of Japan, China, Korea, India, Iran, countries of South-Eastern and Central Asia, Transcaucasia and eastern regions of Russia. Funds of this museum have numerous collections (for about 150 thousand museum pieces). The following exhibits are the most interesting and important: collections of Chinese and Japanese porcelain ware; traditional paintings and graphics; cloisonne enamels and varnished works; Iranian book miniature and art of the period of Qajar dynasty; bronze Tibetan Buddhist sculpture and Chukchee fretted bone; archeological bronze from Iranian Lorestan and Turkmen carpets; Uzbek jewelery and toreutics works from Dagestan settlement Kubachi; and beautiful canvases, graphic and sculpture works of famous Russian artists, connected with the East. However, this is not by far the whole list of collections. Research and publishing activities of the museum employees are various: the basic work with exhibits and collections is combined with researches. The monographs and catalogues of collections, published by the employees of the museum, are the complete high professional scientific works.

The State Museum of Oriental Art is more than just a museum. It is a large multifunctional modern research center, where the masterpieces of art and monuments of culture of Eastern nations and countries are stored, exhibited and popularized.
