Tsvetnye Metally
Key sections of the “Non-ferrous Metals” journal cover topics on heavy and light non-ferrous metals, precious metals and alloys, rare metals, metal processing, automation of metallurgical processes. As usual the issue highlights different aspects of theory and practice of ore beneficiation, production and processing of non-ferrous metals, multipurpose use of crude ore, economics and production management.
The article “ Nanotechnology market: prospects and restrictions” is closely related to the feasibility of production technology for a composite with silver nanoparticles. It is focused on the current state and prospects of the world nanotechnology market by analysing investments, main areas of research, industry application. It is predicted that nanotechnologies will be the most requested in electronics, medicine, chemistry, aerospace and defense industries. The most rapid volume growth of the goods produced using nanotechnology will be typical for Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The principal trends of nanotechnology utilization in electronics, where nanoparticles are used for more efficient heat dissipation in power modules, are stated. Separately, the situation with nanotechnologies in Russia is viewed along with offering the steps necessary for the domestic nanotechnology industry to overcome the lag relative to the world market.
In the paper “Problems of gold plant at the stage of processing activated carbon, saturated with Au (I) and Ag (I) cyanide compounds” the collective of authors of the companies “Zoloto Severnogo Urala” (Northern Urals Gold) and “Polymetal Engineering” studied the problems arising at the gold recovery plant on the stage of activated carbon saturated with cyanide compounds of Au (I) and Ag (I). It was found that acid washing of coals implemented before desorption of precious metals compounds with NaOH solution at 150 oС leads to elimination of calcium-containing impurities from the adsorbent surface, but negatively affects desorption of Au (I) and especially of Ag (I). It is shown that duration of acid washing (before or after desorption) has little effect on results of iron, nickel and zinc compounds removing from coal, and besides cyanide complexes of these metals in an individual state are characterized by low sorption affinity for the activated carbons. Assumptions about causes of their poor elution are made and ways to reduce negative effect of metal compound on the hydrometallurgical processes are proposed.
In 2011, Plovdiv metallurgists celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Combine of Non-ferrous Metals (CNM). Zinc plant was put into operation in 1961. Construction and development of production technologies were realized in mutual efforts of Bulgarian and Soviet specialists. Design of mining and non-ferrous metals processing enterprises was entrusted to the oldest Russian design institute "Giprotsvetmet".
At present, CNM has clearly defined a sustainable development strategy, including both investments in manufacturing and development of the capital structure with expanding CNM presence at the global market of non-ferrous metals. To the anniversary of the combine three articles are published in this issue of “Non-ferrous Metals” journal: written by N. Dobrev, CNM Chief Executive Officer; by A. Ptitsyn, Director of "Giprotsvetmet" institute, Professor of Department of Innovative Design of National University of Science and Technology "MISIS", and by a collective of specialists of "Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant" OJSC, which fruitfully cooperates with CNM for many years.
Publication of the article written by N. Raikov, «The contribution of scientists and specialists of OJSC "Institute Tsvetmetobrabotka" in the creation of new materials, establishment and development of non-ferrous metals processing industry» coincides with the 75th anniversary of the institute. During all these years of activity, more than 100 domestic and foreign factories and workshops were built according to the institute’s design, 150 non-ferrous alloys were developed and introduced, hundreds of different machines and devices for non-ferrous metals and alloys processing were made.
