During the production activity process of the subdivisions of Kovdor Ore Dressing and Processing Enterprise, there have been being yearly formed over 5 thousand tones of the so-called non-technological solid wastes from the maintenance construction and installation works; cleaning of territories, administrative and amenity rooms; and the used packing materials. At the end of 1990-ies, there was made a decision to create the proper refuse dump of the solid non-technological wastes. The project was developed by the institute "Murmanskpromproekt" and, after the longterm ecological expertise and redesign, it had been applied to realization.
The refuse dump of solid industrial wastes is the environmentally protected site. The waste storage is realized, taking into account the staving off the pollution of atmosphere, soil, surface and ground waters, and neighbouring waterways. The basic impact source of the refuse dump on the natural environment is the possible pollution of natural surface and underground waters. The basic factor of the environmental protection efficiency of the refuse dump is the choice of its favourable location on the territory of industrial area of Kovdor Ore Dressing and Processing Enterprise, in the considerable distance from the Kovdor building zone and water protection zone of Kovdoro lake.
