In May 2011, Danieli successfully commissioned his new flat product complex for the production of hot rolled and proces sed coils, located in Iskenderun, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This plant, ideally located at the crossroads of the most important trade routes across the Mediterranean see, is conceived to serve the growing needs of flat steel semi-products in the vast area of the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin and also eastern European markets. MMK produces 320 t liquid steel per hour using one of the most powerful AC furnaces and twin ladle secondary metallurgy station in the world. The scope of equipment includes also twinstrand thin slab caster, hot strip rolling mill with hot strip downcoiler, two-stand reversing cold rol ling mill and continuous hot-dip galvanizing line. With its technologies and extremely compact and rational layout, it represents one of the most advanced plants in the world adopting thin slab casting and rol ling technology, featuring, among other records, the largest single AC furnace meltshop in the world.
