Abstract | Application of dissimilar waste materials, including coarse-grained industrial wastes, as components in stoneware mix used for building ceramics production, is scaling up under current conditions. One of promising methods is related to sulfide molybdenum ores flotation tailings utilization. The Sorsky Mining Complex overburden rocks and ore processing tailings chemical, mineral and particle-size distribution analyses showed, that utilizing ore processing tailings as components in stoneware mix is most promising. The article presents the results of the Sorsky Mining Complex ore processing tailings size distribution optimization studies, as well as the results of the processing parameters studies with a view to produce ceramic materials with predicted performance properties. A composite material model is presented. It was established, that the highest packing density of mix (Ks = 0.58) is achieved using the Sorsky Mining Complex ore processing tailings of –0.315+0.08 mm size fraction in combination with clay and crushed glass of minus 0.056 mm size fraction. Samples, produced on the basis of mix with optimal compositions and under optimal processing parameters, are characterized by high mechanical-and-physical properties (water absorption capacity — 6.5 %, compression strength — 50 MPa) and insignificant firing shrinkage — below 0.4 %. |
