The main task in development of manganese mineral resources base in Russia consists in implementation of economically competitive acid-free ore-processing flow sheets producing high-grade marketable products. The existing methods of manganese minerals processing are described. Their disadvantages are mentioned. The article presents the results of the Ulu-Telyakskoye deposit (Republic of Bashkortostan) carbonate manganese ore processing studies. An acid-free manganese ore processing technology is proposed, based on preliminary oxidation-reduction calcination of ore with iron sulfate (II) and subsequent calcination products leaching by water, producing manganese sulfate water solution. Manganese recovery from sulfate water solution is achieved through precipitation by calcined soda. A principal manganese ore processing flow sheet is developed, permitting to recover manganese salts without causing acid corrosion of equipment. Process regime parameters are determined. All-round utilization of processed minerals is noted, in particular, leaching slime utilization in production of construction materials.
