Abstract | The article presents metallogenic and industrial potential of the Belgorod Region, as well as the research results and the raw material source prospected by the research expedition in the course of 60 years time. Raw material source (RMS) comprises: for the iron industry—14 iron ore deposits containing over 50 billion tons of ore prospected and entered on Russia’s statement of balance of mineral reserves; for the nonferrous-metals industry—2 large bauxite deposits; magnetite-apatite ore deposit; 4 building stone deposits; 2 cement raw material deposits, 110 deposits of various building materials (chalk, clay, sand), refractory and fireproof clays. Groundwater sources in a mount of 148 have been discovered and prospected, including 11 deposits of ecologically clean potable water. Four areas of radon water and 1 area of balneological waters, 2 deposits of medicinal and table water have been found and explored. In the subsoil, titanium and zirconium placers have been found as well as traces of rare metals, gold, platinum and graphite. A mining and smelting integrated works has been created in the region and is successfully operating, involving mineral extraction, metallurgical processing and production of final goods in demand. |
