Abstract | Safety and efficiency of mining are in many ways governed by quality of geological surveying that is only achievable to date with the multifunction geoinformation systems. High efficiency GIS represent integrated software packages composed of different modules interlinked through the common interface, which generates a local computer network intended to maintain a technological system of automated production units. Developed by VIOGEM, GIS GEOMIX is meant for open pit and underground hard mineral mining; it allows geological modeling and handling of various specific tasks, including mineral reserves appraisal (geological and commercial reserves), estimation of amount of stripping, automation of geological surveying, mine planning, drilling-and-blasting pattern design, prediction of blasted rock quality, etc. Complete package of GIS GEOMIX includes the following functional modules: basic—DrillProj for geology, Mark for surveying, DrillBlast for drilling and blasting operations and DrillMine for mine planning; special modules—GeoStructure for geological structure, BlastModel for predicting disintegration of broken rock in open pit mines, StoneFrame for estimation of block structure of slopes and broken rock fragmentation, FlowFrame for ore drawing control in underground mines. Automation of information support based on GIS GEOMIX creates conditions for on-line analysis of geological situation in an open pit (underground) mine and for prompt decision-making on optimal engineering designs and targets for annual production scheduling and long-term mine planning, improvement of blasting quality in open pit mines and stabilization of ore quality fed to crushing and processing in underground mines, optimization of mineral loss and efficient monitoring of ultimate pit limit slope stability. |
