An integrated index of ecological-and-geological pollution is proposed for assessment of solid mineral deposits development areas, which, in contrast to the currently used linear information index Zc, takes into consideration hazardous elements maximum allowable concentration in man-induced environment, also taking into account the various hazardous substances classification through assigning to hazard classes by degree of impact on the environment in accordance with the Sanitary-Hygienic Standard GN 2.1.5.1315—03. With that, the integrated index is calculated on the basis of rock, minerals and ores samples’ aqueous extracts analysis results, that mimics natural leaching process, using water with рН values, characteristic for an area in question. The proposed technique of an area ecological-and-geological pollution assessment is intended to improve the technologies and methods of man and biota environmental safety assessment with respect to use of natural resources.

The authors are indebted to the Head of ZAO (CJSC) «Mekhanobr Engineering» Environmental Protection department M. B. Grigoryeva for taking the trouble to correct the manuscript.
