The article addresses the most important problem of current concern in the area of subsoil use and environmental protection—the integrated utilization of natural resources and residue deposits and stockpiles. This is of crucial importance for multicomponent minerals containing rare earth metals (REM) that are now in high demand for science-driven innovation production in many industries worldwide. REM are conventionally assumed as byproducts production cost of which and other economic magnitudes are not as a rule calculated. Accordingly, the quality requirements for REM-containing mineral deposits are determined subjectively, depending on competence and preferences of a particular contractor. In distinction from Russia, the foreign theory and practice has no term or definition of integrated mineral utilization and calculates recoverable reserves of individual valuable components in multicomponent raw material using methods of geostatistics in the form of cokriging using correlations of contents of the components. The article presents original authorial approaches, methodology and models for economic substantiation of basic quality requirements for mapping, calculation and registering of recoverable reserves of multicomponent minerals, in particular, with valuable REM content, as well as for efficient recovery and utilization of REM. Alternative solutions to the above problems depending on number of the components, their value and demand in the world market, technical and technological preparedness to marketable production both in the form of bulk concentrates and individual concentrates of the most valuable components are illustrated. It is recommended to use an economic–mathematical check model of type of a resource for searching plausible combinations of parameters for quality demands and multicomponent ore body mapping until the maximum value of new present value over the period of life cycle of investment project.
