Abstract

The article informs on launching and growth of the Tula State University (TSU) and higher education in mining. TSU trains mining engineers. Training is realized in 4 areas of expertise: underground mining of coal, metals and nonmetals; open pit mining; mine and underground construction; mining machines. The university meets wants of the industry in mining engineers in the Tula Region and in others regions of Russia. It is worth highlighting training of highly skilled personnel in TSU. The University has 2 councils on conferring scientific degrees of doctors and candidates of engineering sciences in the area of hard mineral mining. Cooperation between TSU’s “mine workers” and technical experts from different branches of industry, especially practitioners from the military–industrial complex, ensures powerful innovative potential of the mining science and education process at the University. Mining technologies developed at TSU enable enhancement in the environmental safety at all stages of coal mining.
