Abstract

In recent years changes in the structure of registered economic reserves take place in the diamond mining industry, with relative growth of ore categories intended for underground development. Expansion of geological resource potential of ALROSA and maintaining of the required level of profitability is possible at the expense of: involvement of deeper level reserves of high-productive diamond deposits into underground mining; reaching of ultimate open pit limits in low-grade ore extraction; cost-beneficial mining of low market value ore. Implementation of these trends is possible only with new technologies of open-cast mining, with ultimate slopes of open pits, new approaches to mined rock uplift and ore handling inside an open pit and new techniques of ore pretreatment in pitwalls. New scenarios of room-and-pillar mining with backfilling for low-value kimberlites in faulted and unstable ground have advanced the available geotechnology for primary kimberlite deposits. The topmost trend of ALROSA strategy in the area of ore beneficiation at operating processing plants for the moment is reaching the maximum cost of marketable production. Accordingly, the new technical solutions are based on process flow diagrams involving X-ray separation, which allows detecting hidden diamonds and appreciably converts beneficiation technology.
