The article presents a case study of engineering decision-making by the Uralgiproruda Institute (hereinafter, the Institute) in the tower-type derrick design for Cheremukhovskaya-Glubokaya mine of Sevuralboksitruda. The construction was executed by SUBRstroi Construction Management of the North Ural Bauxite Mine. The tower derrick was equipped with two multi-cable skip machines at elevation +66.3 m and one multi-cable cage machine at elevation +74.9 m. An overhead crane with capacity of 60 t was installed at elevation of 83 m. Two intake bunkers each with capacity of 145 m3 were placed at elevation of 26.1 m. Tower derrick had outside dimension 21.9×21.9 m and the height of 90 m. The wall thickness was 300 m above elevation of 0 m. The walls were made of cast in-situ reinforced concrete. The foundation piling of the structure had 4 piles with a diameter of 3.2 m and 20–26 m long, placed at outward corners of the tower derrick. The construction process involved the method of layer-by-layer concreting. The tower derrick construction design used ArchiCAD and AutoCADMEP software with 3D modeling of the derrick.
