Abstract

A brief description of the mining industry in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is given. The information on the major mining companies in the region is as of 2015. The share of diamond mining was and remains the largest in the structure of the commercial production in the Republic. ALROSA Company keeps focusing on the diamond mining and marketing. The dynamics of financial performance of the company displays rise in revenues and net profi t owing to comfortable sales environment on the currency market and due to effi cient control over expenditures. The longterm strategy accepted by the shareholders for the corporate development up to 2023 is aimed at strengthening of competitive stand on the market, sustained increase in the diamond mining output and increment in the stock value of the Company. The state-of-the-art in the field of gold mining in Yakutia in 2010–2015 is assessed, with the analysis of underground and placer gold mining at the largest deposits. The major problems due to landslide of raw material prices on the world markets are explained. All small-size and medium-size gold deposits in the South Yakutia are composed of easy ore and developed with the opencast method. The majority of ore deposits in the north-east of Yakutia are not attractive for investors as poor quality of the reserves even fails to compensate expenses and ensure acceptable return. It is possible to enhance gold–antimony ore production by developing large ore deposits and maintaining placer production output at the previous level through opening of new territories and using advanced technologies of gold mining and recovery. The mineral mining industry still plays an important role in the economy of the Republic of Sakha and its value will only grow in the future.
