The Yakutniproalmaz Institute belongs in one of Russia’s largest mining companies – ALROSA. Since its formation in 1961, the Institute has been offering continuous supervision of design and research in the framework of production activity of the company. The human factor is determinative in the performance of the Institute as a scientific organization. Professional improvement is highly important given the inevitable renewal of personnel. The wanted degree of skill is to be ensured by the knowledge management system (KMS) widely applied in the recent years. Generally, KMS is a set of regularly repeated managerial procedures aimed to improve efficiency of acquisition, storage, transmission and use of information required for optimized solution of assigned tasks. The Institute already successfully operates some basic elements of the to-be system: an information support laboratory, a scientific library, a project archive, an intellectual property laboratory and a patent documentation collection. The quality management system introduced in 2007 contributes to the keener knowledge management. To bring the Institute performance in accord with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 standards, all departments of the Institute have been assessed as per Section 6.2 Human Resources. At the present time, in order to speed up the transition to KMS, the Institute has scheduled some organizational and technical events according to the formula: personnel management information streams management intellectual performance management.
