The article shows the development of the coal industry in the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia in the period from 2000 to 2015, including coking and steam coal mining and coal production in the regional subjects, coal supply, investment in fixed assets of enterprises in coal mining and average prices of 1 ton of delivered product. The share of the Far Eastern Federal District in the total volume of coal production in Russia amounted to 10.8% in 2015. The main focus of the Far East coal supplies are still power plants despite the fact that in relation to 2007 their volume decreased by 1 million tons, and the share has decreased by almost 9%. Coal export from the Far Eastern Federal District in 2015 increased by 2.2 times as compared to 2007. In connection with the financial and economic crisis, after 2011, there was a fall in the investment in fixed assets in coal mining enterprises of the Far Eastern Federal District, and the average price of 1 ton of delivered product. The volume of investments in fixed assets in coal mining enterprises of the Far Eastern Federal District in 2015 amounted to US$ 116.2 million, which, compared to the rate effective in 2000, is 3.1 times higher in terms of US dollars and more than 6.7 times higher in terms of the Russian ruble. Average prices of coal produced in the Far Eastern Federal District in 2015 amounted to about US$ 30 per 1 ton, including steam coal – about US$ 20 per ton, coking coal – US$ 57 per ton. A promising strategy of development is denoted for the coal generation in the Far Eastern Federal District. The growth prospects for construction of new coal terminals in the Far Eastern Federal District are discussed. |
