Abstract

We investigated the possibility of application of split ring resonator (SRR) in microwave filter design. This resonator is made of non-ferrous metals; it is one of the types of inclusions in metamaterial. Periodical structure of SRR modifies the dielectric and magnetic permeability of initial material; as a result, negative index coefficient ws obtained. These unique properties found the wide application in microwave engineering, because they allow the creation of units with increased characteristics and expanded functional possibilities. SRR is etched out of microstrip board's horizontal surface. This board is considered as a filter with SRR inclusion. Two power-up schemes are considered: serial and parallel. The equivalent filter scheme and basic relations are given for calculation of S-parameters (reflectance factor S11(F) and transmission S21(F)). When reflectance factor S11(F) reaches maximal value, transmission coefficient S21(F) reaches minimal value, and the filter works on resonance frequency Fp. Modeling was carried out using software package Microwave Office. There was found the dependence of resonance frequency of the filter from the value of dielectric permeability of substrate. There was defined the effect of the type of SRR metal (copper, gold, silver) on the bandpass reaction of the filter. There were made the conclusions about the growth of substrate's dielectric permeability value, decreasing the value of resonance frequency of the filter. The type of SRR metal makes no significant effect on resonance properties of the filter. Investigation results allow the decrease of temporal costs on design and optimization of design parameters.
