The discussion is devoted to large-scale production blasting. Currently ecological safety is a priority the sound industrial development, and a modern blasting technology should provide for the reduction in the aggravating effect exerted by an explosion to the mine infrastructure, adjacent residential area and various production and public objects. Aimed to abate seismic effect of blasting, the currently available primers can change delays set between groups of charges and between separate charges within wide ranges. The undertaken research shows that modern primers with pyrotechnic delayers have an essential shortcoming represented by the bias between the rated and actual firing times. As a consequence, the quality of an explosion worsens, and the explosion performance deviates from the design parameters. Moreover, seismic eff ect even deteriorates as blasts of two or more charges overlap. It is found that manufacturers of primers have greatly achieved in terms of production of detonators with electronic delay, which appreciably enhance safety of blasting. The article reports data of experimental studies into delay intervals using the modern primers under various ground conditions.
