The article deals with the environmental problems of the white marble quarrying areas. In such territories, marble quarrying and processing is carried out, including rough cutting of large marble blocks and fine finishing of marble products. The mentioned problems are made actual due to the fact that overall marble waste makes 30 to 35 % of the produced metamorphic rock. For instance, Koelga deposit mining at the border of the Middle and Southern Ural generates up to 450 thousand tones of fine waste yearly. The total waste volume is estimated round 25 Mt and occupies many hectares of land. This marble waste ranked as hazard class 3 is detrimental to the regional environment. The article gives estimation of life cycle of the man-made marble waste. The authors propose the solution to this environmental problem. In the article the life cycle of manmade marble waste is scientifically substantiated, and theoretical provisions are offered for the ecological assessment of such cycle. A special place in the article is given to the theory of ecological life cycle assessment of man-made marble waste in accordance with the updated international standards GOST R ISO 14040-2010 and GOST R ISO 14050-2009. Being determined by the authors, the annual environmental damage due to withdrawal of land for the storage of fine marble waste in the Chelyabinsk Region and due to the already existing waste disposal sites amounts to 30 millions rubles. In the article, the ways to abate the negative impact of fine marble waste (hazard class 3) on the environment through the waste utilization in the production of ceramic bricks ranked as hazard class 4 are validated.
