The article generalizes experience gained by Donskoy Ore Mining and Processing Plant (aka Donskoy GOK), which is one of the largest chromite ore production plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan, in labor force and engineering staff training, professional improvement and career development. In 2008 Donskoy GOK originated a special department of Human Resources Management allotted with such functions as:
– framing of the personnel, socio-economic and youth policy;
– personnel selection and staffing;
– training of personnel reserve and staff;
– labor management and motivation at production sites;
– work measurement;
– social decisions.
Within this framework, the Plant initiates motivational projects aimed at implementation of creative and professional potential of employees. The career development management system is introduced at the Plant. The system makes it possible to plan turnover rate of key posts and to reveal deficient staff as well as enables the employees to pre-arrange their career development and to spot skill they should cultivate. Much attention is paid to training of specialists. These activities are conducted using the dual education system: students acquire the theoretical knowledge at a local college with the assistance of lecturers invited from the regional higher education institutions and get the hand-on experience immediately in the workshops of Donskoy GOK, in their future working places. The Plant also offers an effective type of wages which stimulate personnel to strive for high production figures.
