Severe mine accidents exhibit complex and hardly predictable behavior. This fact is confirmed by the cases of accidents connected with coal explosions and floods in mines in Russia. Complex physical and chemical processes of large-scale accidents are difficult to calculate beforehand using the available procedures. The required mine rescue equipment is selected with the help of special electronic worksheets and methods. In the meanwhile, in view of complexity and numerosity of factors that influence accident development, such calculations may be insufficient for the appropriate decisionmaking on rescue of miners or on averting the death of mine rescue men. It is required to develop new methods to predict propagation of complex accidents with regard to maximum number of influencing factors. It is proposed to determine mine rescue work tactics through 3D computer modeling. This approach allows analyzing propagation of any accident (explosion, gas emission, fire, fall, flood) and selecting the optimal method to mitigate and manage the accident effects in the network of underground excavations and mined-out areas. The proposed approach has some shortages associated with the limited computational capacities, organizational aspects of mine paperwork management and with the deficiencies of the current mine safety monitoring. Despite the disadvantages, this approach is highly informative and allows presentation of the model results both graphically and numerically at any point of an object under analysis. The process of a disaster situation can be calculated for any pre-assigned time. By varying input data, it is possible to obtain diff erent scenarios of accident mitigation and management.
