Abstract |
Research was carried out in order to study the material composition and fracture work indexes for alumina-containing sweepings generated in aluminum smelting at PJSC RUSAL Bratsk with the use of electrolyzers with self-baking anodes. It was found that aluminum is concentrated with the fractions of –0.315+0.16 mm (45.7 %) and 0.16+0 mm (48.8 %), silicon is concentrated with the fractions of –0.63+0.315 mm (1.91 %), and iron is concentrated as –1.25+0.63 mm (0.601 %) and –0.63+0.315 mm (0.62 %). The material consists of cryolite (Na3AlF6), chiolite (Al3F14Na5), quartz, feldspar, carbonaceous matter and the process-related phase of (NaF)1.5CaF2AlF3. The research demonstrated that the alumina-containing material might be characterized as non-abrasive (with the work index of Ai = 0.0184) and very soft under impact crushing (with the work index of CWi = 3.64). The Bond ball mill work index (BWi = 6.47) indicates very low material resistance to ball milling. The introduction of a crushing stage for alumina-containing sweepings will enable the application of dry cascade-gravity and centrifugal sizing for the separation of impurities in the form of SiO2 and Fe2O3 in order to use the aluminacontaining material in primary aluminum smelting. The work was carried out with the financial support of the project GZ No. 11.8090.2017 / BCh. |
