New applications of the triboelectrification effect in electrostatic separation |
Abstract |
The possibility of using triboelectrification in electrostatic separation is of great interest for the separation of finely ground mineral and technogenic raw materials. The ability of polydisperse material particles of different sizes to acquire a different charge under the action of tribocharging opens up the possibility of using triboelectrostatic separation in grain-size classification. Various options for the application of triboelectrification in electrostatic separators are considered. Analysis of the design features for each separator type enabled the creation at «Mekhanobr-Tekhnika» REC of a new electrostatic separator, in which particles are precharged using a highvoltage current source and subsequently separated under the action of a low-gradient electric field created by tribocharging a dielectric drum electrode through friction against a brush. Comparative experimental tests on the separation of materials using the ELKOR-1 corona-electrostatic separator and the pilot separator were carried out. The materials tested included electronic scrap, from which polymetallic concentrate was recovered, and crushed automobile tires (rubber crumb), from which textile cord was removed. As a result of the experiments, it was established that the use of the triboelectrification effect as of an energy source in electrostatic separation has great prospects. The work was performed with the financial aid of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation under Grant Agreement No. 14.585.21.0007, RFMEFI 58516X0007. |
