Operating companies are making much of new and improved technologies to be introduced in reservoir engineering using horizontal wells. This fact is governed, on the one hand, by higher efficiency of horizontal wells as compared with the vertical well performance and, on the other and, by typical problems connected with operation of horizontal wells: small ‘producing’ portion in such wells (10–30 %), specific effect of reservoir bed inhomogeneity on stimulation operations, difficulty of detecting and controlling sources of water troubles. Furthermore, there are some factors that condition exclusive use of horizontal wells: location constraint of well mouth relative to target reservoir areas, limited number of wells, highly and super viscous oil and unconventional (dense) reservoirs. The aim of this study is to show the application prospects of new technologies for improvement of operating efficiency of horizontal wells. A broad picture remains vague without analysis of production efficiency of horizontal wells, planning of investment of horizontal well drilling and audit of economic matters connected with application of new technologies. This study gives much attention to disclosing causes of oil extraction decrease under premature drowning. Various scenarios of irregular inflows and their influence on reservoir development process using horizontal wells are considered. |
