Lubrication are widely used in metal forming. The main purpose of lubricant is decreasing the coefficient of friction. The lubricant forms an intermediate layer between the body being deformed and the tool, completely or partially isolating them from each other. Due to high specific pressures, the grease does not always completely isolate the rubbing surfaces, allowing the tool and workpiece surfaces to come into contact, resulting in accelerated wear and increased heat generation. This can cause damage to the tool and workpiece, reduce machining accuracy and shorten equipment life. This paper presents a method for determining the effect of lubrication on friction conditions for the processes of continuous hot rolling of seamless tubes in multilayer rolling mills. The variant of realization of installation for friction research on the basis of laboratory mill DUO-210 is presented. This installation allowed to carry out physical modeling to study friction in conditions as close as possible to the real production process. The results of tests of the process of rolling of shells on a movable mandrel in a two-roll mill with the use of various technological lubricants, as well as the results of experience without the use of lubricants are given. The research with the use of technological lubricants based on graphite showed the difference in the mandrel holding force during the rolling of the sleeve depending on the applied composition. At the same time, the use of grease significantly reduced the holding force.
The work was carried out within the framework of a comprehensive project on the topic “Development and implementation of integrated technologies for the production of seamless pipes from new-generation steels with controlled corrosion resistance under complicated operating conditions for the fuel and energy complex of the Russian Federation” within the framework of agreement No. 075-11-2023-011 dated 10.02.2023 according to the RF Government Resolution No. 218 dated 09.04.2010.
