| Abstract |
Over the past decade, Russian iron & steel works have been making efforts to reduce their environmental impact. The coking industry has traditionally been associated with high levels of air pollution. To reduce emissions, it is important to ensure that the doors of coking chambers are leak-proof over a long period of operation. This study discusses approaches to the design and selection of materials for coke oven doors, as well as the features of their manufacturing and operation. The high level of sealing in the coking chamber is achieved through the use of a modern diaphragm design with a flexible spring-loaded knife-type sealing frame made of heat-resistant stainless steel and a multipoint plunger clamp. The design of the doors allows for gas circulation, which helps to reduce gas pressure at the door and prevents the formation of soot and tar around the knife seal. A long service lifetime is guaranteed by the use of a cast iron body with a vermicular graphite structure. Due to the presence of two systems in the door design, locking and sealing, natural cooling of the door body with air from both sides is achieved. The features of mastering the manufacturing of of leak-proof coke oven doors at the plant in Nizhny Tagil are discussed. It also presents the results of the trial testing and implementation of coke oven doors of a new design at MMK PJSC. A machine vision-based emission control system has been implemented at the coke plant in order to optimize the door maintenance process and monitor any uncontrolled emissions. |
