Abstract

Nowadays, realizing rationalization of work flow is an essential competitive factor in the steel industry as well as in other industries. Due to this, principles of lean production gain in importance. This article describes the development of a concept of production control at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband GmbH which focuses on these principles. Procedure for value stream analysis is shown. Decoupling of rolling mill and finishing by means of a buffer stock steered by Kanban cards is illustrated.
