The brief review of resourced potential of mineral resources in Russian shelf areas is presented. Two main groups of mineral resources are emphasized: hydrocarbons (oil, gas, condensate) and solid mineral resources. The leading shelf role of arctic seas was determined for both groups, taking into account resource approach. Weak geological and geophysical examination of Russian shelves in comparison with continental areas and prospective foreign shelves is noted. Further large-scale increase of mineral and raw material potential of Russian shelf areas can be realized only via the Federal program of exploration works.
